Kuala Lumpur, 12 April 2012 – Smoked By Windows Phone, the much talked-about Microsoft challenge that confidently pits Windows Phone against any of the world’s most popular smartphones in simple, everyday tasks, is now in Kuala Lumpur from now until the end of May 2012. The challenge was first launched at CES 2012 in Las Vegas earlier this year and has spread worldwide like a wildfire; having already taken place in Singapore, Jakarta and Hong Kong in Asia alone. The Kuala Lumpur leg is hosted by popular Fly FM DJ Ben a.k.a Ben Jern (@benjern), who is also an all-out Windows Phone enthusiast.

To participate, all challengers need to do is bring their own smartphone, use the same secure and dedicated Wi-Fi or mobile broadband hotspot that the Windows Phone user is on for a level playing field, and execute simple tasks like snapping a photo, posting status updates across Twitter, Facebook and other social networks, finding out important information as quickly as possible, or other daily tasks that typical smartphone users do. If the challenger successfully completes the task faster than the Windows Phone user, they win the challenge and will receive a shopping voucher worth RM100 on the spot!

After using Nokia Lumia 800 for one month, I am ready to say a few words about it. I have a mixed feel about this phone. It is a very nice phone but because it is the 1st WP7 from Nokia, there are quite a number of thing that are still not ‘well polished’ in this phone.

However, I would say that it is a good start from Nokia. Now, let’s get into more detail.

(Continuing with part 2. Part 1 is HERE)

Integration

When I first used the Nokia N9, I told myself that this phone has the best integration so far. Yes, you can set up your Google account, Microsoft Outlook, Skype, Twitter and Facebook……all in 1 place. The whole social networking is built-in and interconnected. Your contacts in the phone book will be automatically linked to their Facebook, Twitter and Skype profile. Even if some are not linked, you can easily link them up, manually.

I first experienced this integration in BlackBerry phones. The moment you click on a contact from your phone book, it does not only show their phone number but also their social networking and chat profile. The moment you click on the chat profile from the contact, you can already start chatting with them. After so long, I finally saw this true integration in N9 and I got excited. Nop, Android phone’s integration was not up to my expectation. For example, I can’t see who is online by just looking at my phone book in Android phone. The apps are not interconnected e.g. Fb chat app.

I’ve personally used both Nokia Lumia 800 and Nokia N9 and many people used to ask me, “Rodger, which one do you think is better?” Unfortunately, I don’t have an answer. Both are unique in their own ways. If you are here for me to say, “GO FOR LUMIA 800″ or “GO FOR NOKIA N9″, you are not going to get such answers from me until the end. So I suggest you not to waste your precious 10-15 minutes here getting an answer.

Some of them starts comparing the specs of both phones and conclude that N9 is better because of 2 times more RAM than Lumia or Lumia is better because of 1.4Ghz processor compared to 1Ghz processor in N9. That is a very wrong way to do comparison, seriously. It is same like comparing single-core Lumia 800 or Nokia N9 with quad-core Android phones. I used to laugh when I see people comparing cores because some phones already have a optimized operating system (OS) which don’t need multiple core processors to run well.

U Mobile has also started selling Nokia Lumia 800 for as low as RM1049. From the image above, you will already have a very good idea on the packages offered as well as the easy payment option.

The easy payment mode is using your credit card where you then have to pay monthly to your bank. More information about the Package and installment option at U Mobile’s website.

Nokia has introduced the Nokia Lumia 610, which is said to be the most affordable Windows phone once it gets into the market. Well, what you pay is what you get. The same applies for Nokia Lumia 600 where its hardware is downgraded if you compare with Nokia Lumia 710.

The downgrade is not that bad if you ask me because the OS is well optimized for low spec devices and the downgrade is still within the minimum requirement. If you compare with Lumia 710, the Lumia 610′s RAM is only half of what given in Lumia 710. Yes, it is 256 MB instead of 512 MB. The processor speed is also reduced from 1.4 Ghz to only 800 Mhz. Other than that, I don’t see any other differences.

I am now using the device for quite some time (not very long actually, just a week). Overall the phone gave me a totally new experience. This is the first time I am trying a WP7 device and it is good. I am glad that there is a device which is simple (not too complicated) and easy to use.

For those who wants a phone which they can explore a lot, tweak, mod and so on, this Nokia Lumia 800 will not satisfy you. However, I can guarantee you that the Lumia 800 will not frustrate you with complicated interface and functions, frequent freezes (I never experience any freezes so far) or low quality exterior.
