I’ve just got a BlackBerry Bold 9790 yesterday. This is a Brightstar unit and I am surprised that some sellers are already selling this phone as well as the Curve 9380 even before the launch date, which is tomorrow.

Now, what is inside the box? I found the phone, warranty card from Brightstar & battery (JM1) which you will not see in the image above because I’ve already put it inside the device. There was also the charger, USB cable, earpiece and some user guides in there.
Unfortunately there is no magnetic holster and external memory card given for the Bold 9790. If we compare with the Bold 9700 and 9780, those devices had the holster and micro SD by default.
As for the Micro SD, it is probably due to the device having 8GB internal memory that Brightstar has decided not to give one. However, it is sad that the holster is not provided but if we look at the price (RM1488), probably that was the reason for an holster not being given. This Bold 9790 is the cheapest Bold series phone that has ever been launched.
The Bold 9000 was launched at RM2199 if I am not mistaken. Bold 9700 and 9780 was about RM1899 to RM1999 at launch. Even the latest Bold 9900 was RM2188 which I personally feel very expensive. When I first got to know the price of the Bold 9790, I was actually quite surprised that this phone is very affordable.
The device runs on BlackBerry OS 7 and comes with 1Ghz processor and 768MB RAM. The JM-1 battery’s capacity is 1230mAh and based on my observation so far, the battery life is still very much inferior compared to Bold 9780 which comes with 1500mAh battery. Anyway, it is still very early to give a comment on this. I will continue observing the battery life for another 2-3 days.
This phone is very thin. I can safely say that it is much thinner than the Bold 9780. Thinner is not necessarily better. For some of us, it will be very small to use. I will explain this in detail in my next post.
I love this device although I find it to be a little unsuitable for me. The design is lovely and females will love this device a lot due to the design and slimness. It also looks classy.
I will be attending the preview session of Bold 9790 and Curve 9380 tomorrow. So, I expect to post a few photos together with my hands-on opinion about both devices (mainly Curve 9380).
