I am currently having a Nokia E6 with me. When I first got this phone (about 11 days ago),  I was so excited because of the touch screen + QWERTY interface. As some of you may already know, I love QWERTY phones. Nah, I was never a fan of iPhone or any touch screen phone without a physical keyboard. The only reason is because a virtual keyboard can never beat a physical keyboard when it comes to typing  e.g. emails, chat, sms & so on.

I have a lot to say about this phone but it will all be done in stages. As for now, I will briefly introduce this phone.

Advert :

After a long time (about 2 years), Nokia finally made a successor to Nokia E71 & E72. Well, there were other QWERTY phones introduced after that such as Nokia E63, E3 and E5 but they were all ‘low end’ phones and obviously, not all functions were given to them.

If you ask Nokia, they would rather say the Nokia E6 as a successor to Nokia E5 instead of Nokia E72. It is true in a way because the Nokia E6 does not have an auto-focus camera, which makes it inferior to Nokia E72. However, it definitely beats the E72 in all other aspects.

Some key features of Nokia E6 :

- 2.46 inches capacitive touch screen display with 16 million colours, a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels and Gorilla Glass display.

- 1GB ROM, 8GB internal storage and option to add more storage (micro SD) up to 32GB.

- Symbian Anna OS, an improved version of Symbian which is definitely much better than Symbian^3 found in Nokia N8, C7, E7 etc.

- 680 MHz ARM 11 processor, 2D/3D Graphics HW Accelerator with OpenVG1.1 and OpenGL ES 2.0

You can check out the specification of Nokia E6 from GSMArena.

Now, what do you get in the box when you buy this phone? The unit that I have is an authorised set. The distributor is Zitron.

The box itself is quite small. You do not need to fear of carrying it on your hand and get unwanted attention e.g. thief etc because it can easily fit your bag.

Below are the contents :

- phone

- 15oomAh battery

- USB PC cable

- 2.5mm port charger

- 3.5mm port handsfree

- USB On The Go (OTG) cable

- leather pouch

- warranty card, manual etc

I highly recommend you to buy an authorised set for few reasons. Firstly, you will receive all genuine Nokia accessories. If you buy an AP set or so called ‘import’ set, the seller can easily replace the accessories with fake and cheap ones. Some of the accessories might even be missing.

As for original warranty, you know that it is safer and easier to repair your phone if there is any problem. I had an experience before with AP set where it had a motherboard problem and till the end, they refuse to change it. What could I do? Waste my time by going to consumer tribunal? Too much of hassle, isn’t it? :)

Also take note that when you buy an AP set, the keyboard might be slightly different because it was made for another country. Some phones may have QWERTZ keyboard and some phones may not have Chinese Pinyin marks on the keyboard. When I bought my Nokia E71 last time, the comma and full stop marks were switched. The AP company was so silly to flash the firmware with APAC version and each time I press comma, full stop will appear (and vice versa).

E6 is also complicated where your device may connect to your prepaid internet even though you are already connected to WiFi. Well, even if I set it to “connect to WLAN only”, it still connects to prepaid internet sometimes which I am not sure why.

However, it is solvable. You can delete your telco’s APN and the phone will no longer deduct your prepaid internet. That is the safest way that I could think off for now. I am still experimenting the phone and will update if I come across any other way.
