Samsung has released the Android Gingerbread OS for Samsung Galaxy Tab. If you own a Tab, it is time to connect it to Samsung Kies and download the update.

Yes, I am aware that the 2.3 version was released last month for several other countries but not Malaysia. I’ve even tried checking for an update via Kies but it did not show any update. Today, I tried my luck again and yes, there was an update available.

By the way, mine is authorised set from Malaysia and update is available. When I checked in some Malaysian forums, there are people who are using a Galaxy Tab but have not got their update yet, probably due to their tablet being imported from overseas.

What do you get via this update? I’ve personally not tested the update yet but according to official update log, the Gingerbread update has made the tablet more responsive overall (typing, web surfing, etc). From what I see, some of the icons have changed e.g. the native browser, Social Hub and Readers Hub. I also see some new applications such as Pulse, Sketch memo and Downloads. Other than that, the battery bar, network indicator, email/notification icons etc has also changed.

I don’t see any major changes yet. Will explore my tablet more and if I come across anything new, I will update it here.

Have you updated yours? How is Gingerbread for Galaxy Tab compared to Froyo?

You need to install Samsung Keis. It is a computer application which you can find from the CD in your phone’s package or you can even download it.
Once it is installed, you need to connect your phone/tablet to your computer and you can find the update option in the app.
