After trying for months to bring the Android Gingerbread OS to the HTC Desire, finally HTC gave hope by saying that there is no sufficient memory in that model to run Gingerbread.

I don’t know how many users in Malaysia are using the HTC Desire but it was one of the high end phone that HTC has released some time back and after spending so much of money to buy this phone,  it is quite frustrating to know that your HTC Desire will be retiring soon.

Previously, it was said that the Gingerbread update will be rolled out by late April or Early May. Now, it is June and looks like they have tried their best but can’t help much. Below is what HTC says :

“Our engineering teams have been working hard for the past few months to find a way to bring Gingerbread to the HTC Desire without compromising the HTC Sense experience you’ve come to expect from our phones. However, we’re sorry to announce that we’ve been forced to accept there isn’t enough memory to allow us both to bring Gingerbread and keep the HTC Sense experience on the HTC Desire. We’re sincerely sorry for the disappointment that this news may bring to some of you.”

Anyway, Froyo @ Android 2.2 is already a very stable and functional version. So I don’t think that it will make much difference if you don’t have Gingerbread. Well, it is nice to have Gingerbread but Froyo is not bad if you compare with Eclair and Donut. So I don’t think that you will complain. :P
