This time I would like to share something that is totally different. It is not about telecommunications. Nah, it is not related to broadband too. However, this is a also falls under technology. It is a called Plasmacluster Ion Technology.
By the way, this Plasmacluster is not a new technology. It was developed in the year 2000 and since then, numerous research has been done on this technology to make it better and also to prove that it is still effective and useful in today’s world.
Oops, until now, I’ve not explained to you on what is PLASMACLUSTER
. Before that, the word is just too long for me to repeat. So I will call it as PIT. Now, what is this PIT all about? It is an ion which is used to deactivate air borne viruses, bacterias, allergens and fungi. The technology belongs to Sharp and you can find the PIT logo (image above) in various Sharp products such as air purifier, refrigerator, vacuum cleaners, air conditioners and so on.
Advert :
To maintain a healthy lifestyle, we need to breathe in healthy and fresh air. Where can we get a fresh, healthy and unpolluted air? The best place that I can think of is jungle
.
Are you going to leave the city and build a house in jungle to live a healthy life? Well, it is possible but not practical. Agree? That is when technology such as PIT comes into the picture.
Based on research done, PIT is proven to eliminate dangerous / hazardous air borne viruses and bacterias. One of the virus that PIT was tested against is the H5N1 avian influenza which is also called the “Bird Flu”. After that, various tests has been done on other viruses such as H1N1 @ Swine Flu and the tests showed positive results.

Well, that doesn’t mean that you will be cured when you buy a product with PIT generator. The idea is simply to be used as prevention than cure. Let’s take it this way. Someone infected with H1N1 virus cannot be healed with this technology but at least, it can prevent the virus from spreading to others via the air
.
What else can PIT do?
- removes odour : Let’s say you do your workout (exercise) in a closed room where a PIT ion generator is installed. The odour produced from your sweaty body will be neutralised by this PIT. After a few minutes, there will no longer be any bad smell in the room. Same goes to any other odour e.g. cigarette odour.
- removes static electricity : I always have static electricity problem in my office where if I touch any metal parts in my office, I will feel like being electrocuted. PIT is able to solve issues like that.
- helps you to maintain a healthy and beautiful skin : a research was also done on this where PIT is able to preserve skin moisture and also improves the texture of the skin. In air conditioned room, your skin will get dry and PIT helps to prevent that.
Well, there are many more actually. To keep it short, I will end it here but not to worry, I will provide some reference for you to read at the bottom of this article.
Now, some bad things about PIT
. There is no such thing as perfect in this world. Everything has its good and bad, and same goes to PIT.
What is the bad thing about PIT?
- if you have perfume in your room or car, it will remove that odour as well. So your expensive perfume will be useless in a place where PIT is generated.
- you can’t see it and you can’t feel the effects immediately. That makes you to feel that the technology is just a gimmick.
- it is not a sterilizer, which means PIT cannot guarantee protection against infection when used in normal environment due to external factors. If someone with H1N1 virus comes and cough straight in front of your face, PIT can’t do much to keep you protected.
- Although the Sharp machines that comes with PIT is maintenance free, the amount of ion generated will still reduce in the long run due to wear and tear.
- The price of products which has PIT is quite expensive in my opinion. Just a handheld PIT ion generator costs you about RM399.
Alright, before I end, I would like to share with you some of the popular companies that are using PIT for their products. Please refer to the image below :
Most of these companies are from Japan (because Sharp is originated from Japan). However, I am sure that you can recognise some of the companies above such as Nissan, Toyota, Daihatsu, and so on.
There are actually a lot for me to say about PIT but I do not want to make my article too long and boring to read. So if you have any questions, please post them below in the comments section and I will get back to you with an answer. Otherwise, you can also refer to the links below.
