Earlier I’ve uploaded DiGi’s chart which I think will not be fair as DiGi has eliminated some aspects which they don’t look good e.g. minutes. Now, I’ve made my own chart which should be a fair comparison, I hope :) . Please let me know if I’ve missed anything. The chart above is a plan comparison for DiGi iPhone 4 vs Maxis iPhone 4. I see that Maxis gives better minutes compared to DiGi but as for the rest, DiGi’s offer is better.

This will be a total comparison for 24 months. I’ve not made a comparison of 12 months because DiGi doesn’t offer 12 months subscription. The table above will be a total of the plan + phone’s price. Overall looks like DiGi is cheaper than maxis but the difference is not much.

Alright, now I will show you my crazy calculated table which shows which plans offers more VALUE to your money :) Since I’ve mentioned that it is a crazy calculated table, you may debate on the calculation method if you are not happy for any reason.

This table was made because I received some feedback stating that I am biased in my calculation. There were some comments such as, “Maxis is offering more minutes. If you calculate, you will have more value with Maxis”. So this table above is to have a fair view on which offers more value. I’ve taken into account the minutes, sms, mms & internet which are the core factors in those plans.

For SMS, I’ve calculated value for DiGi at RM0.10/SMS because you can send SMS to any network. As for Maxis, it is based on RM0.05/SMS because you can only send SMS to same network. If you look at MMS, I’ve not given a separate value although Maxis only offers MMS to same network. This is because Maxis MMS to same network is RM0.25 & other network is RM0.50. DiGi offers MMS to same network at RM0.20. If we calculate that way, DiGi’s MMS value will be lower & that will not be fair. So I’ve taken a standard rate of RM0.20/MMS.

As for internet bandwidth, I thought of calculating at the rate of RM0.05/10Kb but it will show a huge amount which is unrealistic. So, I’ve made some changes in my calculation. I’ve taken DiGi’s RM68/3Gb internet plan for calculation because that is the cheapest. I’ve not given a different rate for Maxis as it won’t be fair for calculation. So that’s how I got the amount (after converting to round figures). RM68/3Gb = RM22.7/1Gb.

Does that make sense? :P

UPDATE : a simplified version is now available. If you feel that the table above is quite complicated & you just want to know how much is the TOTAL cost for 24 months, here you go – CLICK HERE

but as i know, if compare 3G area, maxis is better than 3g right?
which means digi alot of place can’t get online?
i check the coverage area, even my hse, dun hav digi 3G…

For DiGi ,you can still go online. It is just that you will be using EDGE or GPRS which is slower than 3G.

I am using EDGE although I have 3G coverage. It is because I want to save battery & I don’t see much difference between 3G & EDGE based on how I use it (mainly push email, sometimes web surfing).

So it depends whether you really need a better 3G coverage or not.
