There was a rumour going on recently that DiGi is also going to launch Blackberry services for its prepaid customers. I am not sure how far it is true
Well, it goes like this. This service will be launched somewhere end of this month & there will be two types of subscription, one for daily & the other one is for monthly. Did anyone of you ever heard of this? Is this just a rumour or something that is going to really happen?
Hmm, it DiGi happens to launch this service, it is definitely going to be great for prepaid users. Blackberry device (with its blackberry messenger) is a great form of communication for people. You can chat with your friends on the go for free as long you have the BIS service available. Prepaid users who used to sms a lot can benefit from this if their friends are also into blackberry.
Last time, I was told that Celcom had a lot of hiccups with their daily prepaid BIS plan where it auto deduct money everyday but subscription is not active. The user has to call Celcom to rectify this problem & then only it will be activated. Now it should be fixed but for a starter like DiGi (if they launch), will they have similar hiccups?
We shall wait and see. Their postpaid plan @ smart plan was a great success as it is a real value for money service compared to Celcom & Maxis. Hopefully we see something affordable for prepaid users as well.
UPDATE (9/7/2010) : DiGi has finally launched blackberry for prepaid. It is very affordable, for only RM2 per day (which will be about RM60 per month). Definitely bang for the bucks for DiGi prepaid users. More info at http://www.digi.com.my/whatshot/promotions/bb_prepaid/index.do
Yeah, you got it right. It is MiFi & the 1st ever Telco to launch this is DiGi. The concept is similar to a WiFi where few devices can access to a wireless network simultaneously.
The MiFi device, which is about the size of your palm, can fit easily into your pocket & can be brought anywhere easily. Below is a screenshot of MiFi from DiGi website :
You can connect up to 5 devices with this MiFi & the speed is following what is offered in your package, e.g. if DiGi internet, it will be LAS 700Kbps download & 200Kbps upload. Well, you can expect some slowness if multiple devices sharing the MiFi connection, similar to any other WiFi sharing experience.
As for the pricing, DiGi has not announced anything yet. Currently there is a pre-order for this device (same like iphone pre-order scenario). On DiGi’s website, they have stated that there will be some pricing advantage for pre-orders & I am not sure how much will it be. One thing for sure, you need to subscribe to DiGi’s internet package with a minimum contract in order to get this device. Hmm, this will be a little interesting but will not be useful for everyone as some of us are in a location which DiGi has not come out with their 3G base there. So what will be the point of sharing an EDGE connection which is already just too slow?
Hopefully DiGi expand their 3G coverage nationwide so that this device will be useful for travellers like me
